Denver mayor urges city to wear orange and blue on Friday in support of Broncos

Get out your orange and blue garb, Denver, because Mayor Michael Hancock hopes to turn Friday into a massive citywide pep rally for the Denver Broncos.

Still no hair on his head, but Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is rocking a "Van Dyke" beard on his face. Denies that he has forsaken the razor until the Broncos win a game.

Hancock, sporting a bearded look for the new year, said in a meeting this morning he will declare Friday ?Orange-and-Blue Day? in honor of the Broncos who play in their first playoff game since 2005 on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

?Congratulations to the Denver Broncos,? said Hancock, who as a youth served as the football team?s mascot, ?Huddles.?

Councilman Paul Lopez also offered kudos to the San Diego Chargers ? the team that beat the Oakland Raiders on Sunday to give Denver the top spot in the AFC West and ensure the Broncos would be in the playoffs.

The Broncos have lost three games in a row heading into the wild-card playoff game at Sports Authority Field.

Hancock denied his newly grown facial hair that is sculpted in a traditional Van Dyke beard style was due to any pledge not to shave until the Broncos win. One council member quipped that could generate into an embarrassing Rasputin look.

?No, Mary (his wife) loves this,? Hancock said, adding that he had a similar look while on council. ?It?s winter time, so I am going to grow it again.?
